The festive season is finally upon us, and what better way is there to celebrate than with a decked-out dinner party? Some of the best times of the year are during the festive period, spent with family and friends over some good food. Whether you’re hosting an intimate gathering or throwing a grand affair, we at OHS have prepared some handy tips and tricks that’ll set your party up for resounding success. On top of that, we’ll help spice things up with some delicious and hearty air fryer recipes that’ll leave your guests craving more.

Make a list and check it thrice…

The best time to start planning your Christmas party is ASAP! I recommend making a checklist of everything you need, from decorations and table settings to the food and drinks preparation. Making a well thought out and comprehensive list will help you stay organised, prevent over-buying, and reduce any last-minute stress.

A few things to think about include:

  • Your ingredients. Once you’ve settled on a set menu for your dinner, list off all the bits and pieces that you’ll need to prepare your feast. Consider both food and drink to make sure nothing is missing from your plate (or glass!).
  • A guest list. Making a note of all attendees means you’ll be able to assess how much food and drink you’ll be serving before extending invitations. This is also handy for having any dietary requirements and preferences on hand, as well as figuring out how many seats you’ll need.
  • Snacks! Snacks are an important part of any good party. Some simple snacks include olives served alongside cheese and crackers, or festive crisps and a quick homemade dip. A pre-dinner party snack that I love is a quick and easy bruschetta. Simply toss some tomatoes, fresh basil, and garlic in extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar and serve on top of a lightly grilled crusty bread. Some nice tea and coffee are also a good idea for after dinner.
  • Music. Every good dinner party has a fitting playlist to accompany the good times. Ask friends for some recommendations or create a collaborative playlist so there is a little something for everyone. Be sure to include your favourite holiday songs.

Decorate to dazzle…

Set the stage for a successful evening with your best festive decorations. A great way to introduce a festive element into your home is warm fairy lights and scented candles. Apple Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Sandalwood are three scents that I love this time of year. These scents are spiced and inviting, welcoming guests into a deliciously warm home. Consider your table decorations and centrepieces. It’s always nice to have something to draw the eye and stir conversation amongst your company. This is where your festive playlist will compliment your mood lighting and bring the atmosphere together.

Sign off with a signature cocktail…

Surprise your guests with a specially prepared signature Christmas cocktail. With so many easy and playful recipes to play around with, this is an easy and thoughtful way to introduce some festive flair to your evening. Choose between a tasty spiced mulled wine, an equally jolly and spicy margarita, or perhaps a tangy and refreshing mocktail.

Create merry & bright moments…

Laugher is a priority at any Christmas party. Keep your guests engaged and entertained with some fun and interactive elements. Set up a DIY hot chocolate station, complete with marshmallows and cream and chai. Simply melt a few bars of your favourite chocolate down with your choice of milk in a pot, simmering on a low heat. Another option is a gingerbread decorating station, or, my personal favourite, a Christmas board game, or any board game for that matter. This will add a layer of fun to your festivities and help the group bond as the evening progresses.

Consider Dietary Preferences

As previously mentioned, it’s important to check in with your guests beforehand to understand any dietary restrictions or preferences. This ensures that everyone can enjoy the feast without worries.

 Air Fryer Recipes:

I don’t know about you, but ever since I got my hand on an air fryer the oven may as well not exist. Air fryer recipes are a quick and easy way to prepare some delicious meals for yourself and guests this Christmas. I’ve given a quick rundown of a few of my personal favourites for you to try. Simply prepare your meals and stick them in whilst your guests are arriving for some timely and beautifully cooked food.

   - Knead, cut into strips and air fry for 7-9 minutes.

The slow cooker is also a kitchen essential that I can't live without, and is equally as useful at Christmas for some hearty and delicious meals that'll impress your friends and family. You can find some Slow Cooker Recipes here if you’ve got a little more time on your hands.

Last but certainly not least…

Enjoy yourself! Hosting can often distract you from enjoying the party, but don’t let it get in the way of your fun! Once the evening arrives, don’t forget to let loose and join in the jolly times to create lasting memories with your guests. After all that work, you definitely deserve it!

Happy party planning and happy holidays!
